The Red-wing Blackbirds are a favorite of visitors to Theler Wetlands. They are among the first birds you see and hear as you enter the wetlands. Several of the birds have built their nests in the marsh close to the dike as you enter. These photographs were taken as I stood on the dike from a distance of about 20 feet. Perhaps 50 people walked by as I took these shots. At no time was the female stressed or bothered by our presence.

The last five photographs show the chick producing a fecal sac and the female removing it.
