Bonaparte's Gulls 1/8
This large group of Bonaparte's gulls was far off shore when I first arrived at Point No Point. Over the course of several hours, whatever they were feeding on drifted close to shore (it was an unusually low tide). This shot shows about half of the flock.
They would fly into the wind, diving straight down and submerging into the water. They then would come up and do it again. When they reached the edge of whatever they were feeding on, they would circle around to the other end of the feeding area and do it all over again.
The next series of seven photographs shows the various stages. This is not a continuous sequence of shots but rather shots of different birds at different stages of their feeding dive.
